Open Question: Claiming my son when filing taxes.?

In minnesota how does the law work. Could i claim my son every other year and my ex claim every other year. Especially if we agreed. Or do we have to go to court. Or how does that work. Me and my ex agree to file every other year. Can that be ok by law. Or as parents do we both have the right? Please help me and the ex arent together.
